Menagerie — The Trial of Spock

Over the past several years, the emergence of vernacular video has enabled new ways of thinking about  public voice. As the lines between media producer and consumer continue to blur, online participants juggle multiple roles as creators, filterers, distributors, and critics of media. (McVeigh-Schultz 2008)

The proposed work is a continuation of my research and art practice around the concepts of experimental archives and collaborative media studies. Archives are the materials, processes, and spatial locations of accumulating, maintaining, perpetuating, and accessing records. Since any record is temporary within the scope of geologic or astrologic time and always contingent upon the specific interpretation practices and abilities of the present– archives are inherently experimental community practices. They are hypothetical attempts at perpetuity and communication from a past to a future without guaranteed results. (Travelslight 2009)
